Empty Your Plates to Reduce Food Waste
Food waste is one of the biggest problems facing humans today. According to OLIO, between 33-50% of all food produced globally is never eaten, and the value of this wasted food is worth over $1 trillion. Meanwhile 800 million people go to bed hungry every night. Each and every one of them could be sufficiently fed on less than a quarter of the food that is wasted in the USA, UK and Europe each year. And if food waste were a country it would be the 3rd largest emitter of greenhouse gases (after China & the USA).
To lower carbon footprint and conserve resources, Kalerm launched the campaign on Nov 25 and called on all staff to empty plates and reduce food waste. They all responded positively and signed their names to express the support for the campaign.
At lunchtime, all staff ordered food based on their needs and emptied their plates.
Reducing food waste is urgent and important, and there’s much more we can do besides emptying plates. Everyone shall do their part and take responsibility, altogether, we will create meaningful sustainable changes for the planet.
